This was the last generation of these cars when they were actually different cars for different drivers.
If you wanted the "ultimate driving machine" you got a manual M3
If you wanted the "german luxurious muscle car" you got the AMG
If you wanted the "practical and fast all season car" you got the RS4 estate.
Now they are all the same car with different badge....

Oh dear, you are right. 1000% right just bought a M4 and very happy with it... but it is to perfect to balanced to predictable! Everyday i watch videos from the E92 and get more in thought to change the vehicles. New cars feels a bit soulless. Every car is turbocharged, fake farts, extremly fast gearboxes but no really character.

That's the problem with a lot of different safety regulations in different markets. To meet those standards, a lot to similar properties have to be implemented. It's like convergent evolution
looking back at these in 2023 is so crazy. this show was absolutely peak. just some bros that love cars and love to have fun. top gear will forever hold a place in my heart.
I’ve always wondered what makes this show so hard to recreate, because selfishly, I want it to come back. But it always comes down to one thing… well, 3 things.. the trio is just unmatched. Will forever hold a very special place in my heart.
@@jezzat1363 It works because they don't take themselves too seriously. They also have lives outside of cars which is why they feel more relatable to the avg person.

Plus the RS4 was already a couple years old when they did this.

The e92 M3 is one of the most beautiful and classic designs BMW ever created. Especially in Mineral White it still looks incredible.

These cars all aged very well.
The E92 M3 is still known as a very well balanced handler.
The W204 C63 is still known for it's very powerful engine.
The B7 RS4 is still a Great sounding all season monster.
As the generations come, the personality just got more diluted for the sake of speed. Hate to say this but Speed isn't always the answer.
Except now we know that the BMW has catastrophic engine problems, the Merc only attracts teenagers that can't afford the maintenance and the Audi is still as boring as it was back then.
But for some reason i love them all

The fact that a 1970’s F1 car is 30 seconds faster than a modern Mercedes is actually crazy.
I have owned performance Audis in the past and after I drove the last generation M3, I converted to the dark side; now I also own the new M3 and I can attest that it is very well balanced, fast and really an amazing drive. Audi needs to fix the issue with the engine hanging so far ahead. RS4 handling dynamics that are just safe and not entertaining enough won't cut it. The AMG is a great car, but not offering a manual; it needs to learn how to put down its power too...
The engine is so far ahead because of the front diff and the gearbox are in one unit
Have you ever driven a non high-mileage B7 RS4? The RS Quattro system is RWD bias (more so when TC/ESP is completely off) to aid in counteracting the understeer. Obviously it won’t slide/drift as well as it’s exclusive RWD adversaries but it’s definitely amazing and fun in its own way as it inspires confidence when driving 280km/h on the highway without fear of losing control (obviously at 3am-5am when the highways are empty).

@@ArkadyRenko1 I have driven faster in snow in my Mercedes S204 rwd faster than audis, but had to get some speed to plow thru and stopping and then trying to set off again can be problematic. But the amount of angle you can get in a quattro and doing 360s mid skid is quite fun, however holding a skid for long in a rwd can be fun too.
Track: M3, Drag race: C63, Road car: RS4. Different tool for different jobs.

I have been lucky enough to have driven Audi's, AMG Mercs, and E30/36/46/9x M3's, and I can confidently say that the M cars are just different. Heck, they created the market that made it possible for these car to be produced.
Chassis experience, ergonomics, engineering refinement, understated design on the interior and exterior. It really is the total package. The engine, smooth from idle to redline, feels more powerful & transcends what he numbers actually say.

it is very nice for sure and that v8 is sweet. However, having owned a E series M and 335, there were constant issues from abs to HPF system constantly. I have owned the c63 now for 3 years and its been flawless.
I remember watching this episode when I was 10 years old, I'm 22 now and bought my first car, and E92 M3. This episode literally made my life

@@AnthroGearhead The F80 M3 /M4 are exactly the same other than one being a coupe. They both have the same chassis and motor. To say the M4 is a joke makes zero sense. In fact the M4 is closer to what an M3 is known to be a coupe not a four door so if anything the M3 is a joke would make more sense given the heritage of the original M3 coupe!
I only said it becuz the M4 was slower than a Camaro , Mustang and Lexus on the tracks

I believe you're correct. Both of my cars are 2008s. MkV GTI and E92 ///M3. My wife's car is a 2009 328 to add some more evidence to your question.

Top Gear is pretty much what got me seriously into cars (prior to that, it was Hot Wheels as a kid). It's quite interesting to watch this again 10 years later and see how my perspective has changed: initially, I thought the Audi was so boring and the BMW was stupid, so that left the Merc. Now, I would have trouble choosing between the three.
That C63 is my favorite Mercedes ever. Would take one over the new C63 any day.
The M3 was a great machine but I never really liked it, the RS4 looks cool in my opinion, but never really stood a chance against his competitors.

The M3 is much better than the other two. It's four seconds faster around the track! As for sheer excitement, the Merc is awesome.
The C63 is not really a track car. Despite the big engine it is not a sports car so much as a GT car. Hence the automatic gearbox. The Merc is possibly (probably?) better to live with every day (if you can live with the fuel economy which is single-handedly responsible for global warming).
The cars fit each of them perfectly.
I really like how the RS4 behave, but the E90 m3 is always my dream car,, too bad it's been replaced now..
buy a used one. You won't regret it, and you can find awesome deals on them. It's what I did :)
You will be sorry , dont buy a used one.. The Engine will have many costs Later. Few things need to be replaced in time otherwise the whole Egine will be gone faster then you can blink .You want a real V8 , AMG is the answer .Or wait for the new M4 . Muuuuch better and nicer Modell then the E92 M3.
E90 is the non-M3 4 door 3 series I believe

E92 series bmws were great cars. Even the smaller engine 320i variants were very well balanced.

As an E46 M3 owner, I surprisingly found out i prefer the Audi RS4 to the E9X M3. The gearbox is fantastic, the Quattro system makes it incredible year-round and the 4.2 V8 is every bit as characterful as the S65.

The RS Quattro system is also RWD bias and when you turn traction control/ESP completely off (holding the traction control button, not just pressing it), it literally drives like a RWD car in the snow and is so fun. I love sliding in the snow🕺

The facelifted w204 is timeless but this non facelifted gen really got old
C63 all the way. The new coupe version looks incredible, and as always, that 510hp V8 has an amazing tone. Absolute monster of a car

The facelift of the C63 is just an amazing car, last of its kind, the end of an era. Get one if you're a fan because they'll be too old/forbidden soon.

Yes, the RS4 is the least fun of these three, but it’s the nicest item. I lust so much after its wide wheel arches and perfect stance.. It’s subtle but powerful, and thruth be told, it’s a lot more fun than you expect.
Not the least fun imo. I’ve owned one for over 4 years. I’ve driven all 3 (sadly M3 wasn’t manual and was very boring on the street)
@@sdb87149I’ve owned my RS4 since I turned 20 4 years ago and it’s been my daily driver ever since. Literally the best most reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned (out of B7 A4, 2006 2.5L Jetta, 2010 Corolla) and has never left me stranded unlike the other vehicles. Definitely not boring and the RWD bias helps so much in counteracting the understeer especially when driving hard on the highway.

I've driven all three of these cars. The M3 I spent some time in was a manual E90 sedan, not the coupe. It was an absolute weapon! I loved it, and could definitely see myself owning one. The C63 AMG I drove was a 2010 with the Performance Package, which I believe came with a few more horsepower and an LSD. I didn't get to do much corner carving in it, but I did get to practice several street light launches and highway pulls. It was a monster, but the lack of manual transmission ultimately kept me from pulling the trigger. I wasn't able to test drive an RS4 until nearly a year later. The Daytona Grey 2008 sedan fit my 6' 8" frame perfectly. It was easily the most comfortable of all three for someone my height and size. I was daily driving a MK6 GLI Autobahn at the time, and the interior dimensions were very similar. I'd love to have been able to experience the Euro-spec seats, but I wasn't complaining. The whole car was constantly giving me the feeling that I was in something truly special. The 4.2 liter DOHC 32v V8 was definitely the most engaging of all three cars. It felt like what a Honda V8 with iVTEC might be like. Plus, it came with 40/60 split Quattro AWD, a great 6-Speed manual transmission, and killer brakes. As Audis go, the B7 RS4 has got to be one of their best driver's cars of all time. It was the whole package, and that test drive left me so blown away that I very nearly spent our wedding money to buy it.
The Audi felt the most solid, the most well-built, and the most special by a pretty wide margin. I have given very serious thought to importing a German-spec B7 RS4 Avant. I honestly can't fathom a more perfect machine to daily drive year-round.

created chemistry that works on 100%, I don't
know if it's scripted or not but I don't care I
still enjoy it so much :D they are being
themselves and that's something we don't see
that much nowadays, over the years they
haven't changed at all they are still funny and
full of energy, each one of them has
something special, cool, funny and that's what
I love the most :)

One of the most memorable and enjoyable reviews ever. Each car was a perfect extension of the presenters characteristics and eccentricities, which they carried out with great aplomb.
e90's to this day are still great cars.
E90 M3 was the car we should all have bought as new and kept it in perfect condition but of course when it was new I couldnt afford it and bought the E90 330i instead, still own it.

Audi = Under the bottom (? Can I say that?)
Basically the audi is too tame and the merc is too wild. I think the m3 looks the best as well.

Kryzier you could also say badly engineered. Everyone can slap a big ass V8 into a car but to make it a proper sports car is not that easy.
