“When I play, I play sort of like talking, you know, syllables, you say a sentence here, a sentence there and then, I’ve to stop and think for something else to keep my conversation going. But his didn’t seem to be that at all. It was fluent, he flowed when he played. He could get something going and it was like a song and it would just go on and on. Ideas continuously flowed, I don’t have that. There is not a lot of people that I hear that have that but Stevie had it.” - BB King
Anything from this Mocambo show is pretty much the pinnacle of blues guitar playing.

I have always viewed SRV as an enigma, some sort of an open-channel medium who flows music seemleesly and effortlessly with intense emotion. I am grateful for the music he left us by age 36, but one can only imagine what more could have emerged from this ICON had he lived a longer life. RIP SRV, you are so loved brother! Very much appreciated the reaction, TY.

SRV has the most natural flow of any guitarist ever. It flows out like water in of the stream for SRV. I saw him the first time at the Del Mar Fair in San Diego in 1983. It blew my mind, and I saw him 5 more times before his early passing. The last time was 1990 a month before his death, with Joe Cooker again in San Diego at the Sports Arena. I am so grateful I got to see him so many times during his short time.

Hendrix's rendition of this song from the Royal Albert Hall in 1969 is the best version I've heard of this.

From Hendrix' Axis Bold As Love album, Jimi performed it live a lot and there is plenty of footage. The more of live Hendrix you listen to the more you will see Hendrix style and phrasing in SRV's playing. It may appear that Stevie is free forming or improvising on this performance, but he's often absolutely nailing much of Jimi's phrasing from some of his legendary performances. Often, when SRV plays a Hendrix tune, he'll toss in a lick or phrase from a totally different Hendrix song. Here, when he returns from adjusting the amps, to change his sound, we get a touch of Machinegun followed by a little Castles Made Of Sand. Of all these artists that died too young, Stevie lived the longest, and took it the furthest.
I do recommend Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush. In the 70s he took over much of Hendrix's sound after he died. Frankie is still around. And yes, he's on a similar level to Jimi and SRV.

Every guitarist plays "Little Wing" because is such a great vamp and progression to play over as an instrumental... SVR's is likely the best in that format. The blues are freeform, the song is freeform like jazz it's about improvising, in the moment, the zone.
The original by Jimi was a song with lyrics but short verses followed by the jam where he let loose his guitar...
Well, she's walking through the clouds
With a circus mind that's running wild
    Butterflies and zebras and moonbeams
    And her fairy tales
That's all she ever thinks about
    Riding with the wind
When I'm sad, she comes to me
With a thousand smiles, she gives to me free
"It's alright", she says, "It's alright"
Take anything you want from me, take anything

I was lucky enough to see him in 88. He opened up for Robert Plant. He literally seduced me with his guitar and then he sang...smooth as butter 😂. Great reaction as usual guys and Peace out 🙏 ✌️ ☮️

Stevie playing with BB is actually pretty common on video. However, you’ve got him with Albert King and others that are at least as good.

Stevie took a Hendrix song and made it his own the same way Hendrix took "All Along the Watchtower" from Dylan

SRV is great, PLEASE DON'T ANYONE MISUNDERSTAND, but I like Jimi Hendrix version of "LITTLE WING" so much more, it has LYRICS, used to have it as a "RING TONE" on my phone

Also riviera paradise, and his duet with Albert king! He was a legend in his own right and told Stevie “you’re the only white boy with a black daddy and I’m him” 😂

Thanks for your kind words about Stevie. You asked for other collaborations, so here is one of my favorites, “Tin Pan Alley” featuring SRV, his band Double Trouble and fellow Texas Bluesman Johnny Copeland. Fire!

Sadly this video cuts out the end of the song. He goes full Hendrix playing on the floor and flopping his guitar around. Still a good video though.
